Invisalign Q&A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a state-of-the-art orthodontic system that relies on a series of custom-made clear plastic trays called aligners to move teeth into their correct positions over time. Each set of aligners is made in a lab using precision technology to ensure a custom fit for the best and fastest results based on your unique needs.

Is Invisalign® better than traditional metal braces?

That depends on your preferences, but generally speaking, most patients find Invisalign® offers several benefits compared to metal braces, including:

  • A clear plastic design that makes them nearly invisible while being worn

  • Smooth edges and no sharp brackets or wires for a much more comfortable treatment experience

  • Removable design to make it much easier to brush and floss, and also to enable you to eat whatever you like without dietary restrictions associated with metal brackets and wires

  • Custom fit for greater comfort and, usually, much faster results

  • Fewer office visits compared to metal braces which require constant adjustments

  • Simpler cleaning process

Invisalign® is available for teens and adults.

What is Invisalign® treatment like?

Your treatment will begin with impressions of your teeth which will be sent to a lab and scanned into a computer. Special software will be used to create three-dimensional models of your teeth that show how your teeth need to move to become straight. Then your series of aligners will be created based on those models. During treatment, you will wear each aligner for about two weeks before moving on to the next one in the series. You can expect to wear between 12 and 30 aligners during treatment, which usually takes 18 months or less to complete for most patients. During your treatment, you will need to have office visits about every six weeks to make sure your teeth are moving properly.
